Paula del Rio Arteaga is a Sevillian designer and the founder of NOOK. Since 2011, she has been based in Madrid, where she graduated in fashion design at the European Design Institute.

NOOK is a very young brand of ready-to-wear urban unisex and over- sized silhouettes. Her first collection is inspired by two great ancient civilizations, the Egyptians and Mayans. Before starting this project, Paula conducted research about how different geometric forms and the cosmos were applied to the Mayan and Egyptian culture. There she pursued her need to find an explanation for certain issues she has always been concerned about, but could not understand until a certain age.

For Paula, her family has been a very important inspirational source. Especially her oldest sister has always been telling her interesting stories about Egypt, by explaining her the stories of all the art she would see in museums as well as bringing her old books from her first visits to the country. “During my childhood, I had the great opportunity to travel with my family to different countries and immerse myself in their history. That made me become a true lover of ancient culture. When I went to Egypt I was only fourteen years old, but the great architectural beauty, history and the mysteries of its civilization left me very impressed.

"I wanted to materialize all these ideas by looking for a relationship between ancient civilizations and ours, and find a way to translate it into my designs. When I finally had this objective defined, my nights became sleepless due to all these boiling ideas in my head. It was a tough, but very beautiful creative process.
